David Eckstein (born January 20, 1975 in Sanford, Florida) is a baseball shortstop and current lead-off hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals, beginning in the 2005 season. Fallowing a college career as a hike-in at the University of Florida, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 19th spherical of the 1997 amateur draft, and selected off release per Anaheim Angels on August 16, 2000. He was the member of the 2002 World Series champion Anaheim Angels.
From either 2001-04, Eckstein has compiled the .278 batting average with 17 home runs and 170 RBI in 567 games. He was voted to the National League All-Star team in 2005.
Eckstearound too specializes in stealing bases because of his neat speed.
College Career
At a University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, Eckstein was a walk-in to the Gators baseball team in fall of 1994, late earning the scholarship. The standout in the Southeastern Conference, he was two-period the lot-SEC (1995-96), number one team 100%-Western within 1996 & a 3-instance SEC Academic Honor Roll choice (1995-97). Eckstewithin was a 1st both-period GTE Academic Completely-Western in Gator history. He was as well the member of the 1996 College World Series team that finished third in united states.
High School Career
At Seminole High School within Sanford, Floridthe, Eckstein was the 2-instance 100%-State selection,and the member of a state championship.
